Detroit Lions player Cam Sutton wanted for domestic violence in Florida

Florida's Hillsborough County (FOX 2) - A Florida sheriff's office is looking for Cameron Sutton, a player for the Detroit Lions.

Sutton is sought after by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office for a domestic violence incident that took place on March 7 just before five in the morning. The 29-year-old cornerback is wanted on a charge of domestic violence by strangulation, according to records from the sheriff's office.

According to Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Chief Communications Officer Amanda Granit, the incident happened in a house in the Lutz neighborhood, north of Tampa, Florida.

"We learned that he was in a verbal altercation with an adult female at that home," Granit explained. "That verbal altercation escalated to a physical altercation where the victim sustained multiple injuries to her head, her neck, her shoulders, and that sparked the 911 call that came from that home."

Since then, authorities have been attempting to locate Sutton.

He may be operating a Jeep Grand Wagoneer with license plate FL-AZ33QB.

"We are aware that he owns a house in a nearby Tampa county. We have contacted him via his cell phone, through an attorney, and there as well," Granit went on. "He could be in Florida, he could be up in Michigan."

Regarding Sutton's warrant, the Detroit Lions issued the following statement:

"This morning, we learned about Cam Sutton's ongoing legal issues. We won't be making any more comments at this time; we'll keep an eye on the situation."

After six seasons in Pittsburgh, Sutton played 17 games for the Lions in his first season in Detroit last year.

In 2023, the cornerback recorded 65 tackles and one interception against Dan Campbell's squad.

"Domestic violence doesn’t have a place in our community or any community," Granit stated. "No one is above the law, regardless of who they are. And that's basically the takeaway from this incident today: Cameron Sutton must come forward and we must investigate everything that happened on the 7th."

It is requested that anyone with information regarding Sutton's whereabouts call the sheriff's office at 813-247-8200.
